I love my home office rooms and the relaxing atmosphere I have designed for myself, and I will love them for many years to come.
My favorite office designs were inspired by a lot of internet pictures, and I want to share with you what I like to have in my offices.
If you enjoy my home office design ideas compilation, please don’t forget to let me know in the comment section at the bottom of this page.
Wall Painting
A wall painting is a brilliant accessory to have in your office, especially if you have a big room and don’t know what to place in that big, empty space.
Your wall painting should be something you like and make you smile every day as you walk into your office with your morning coffee.
Pictures
I really like to have pictures sitting on the wall in my office. I find three in a row works perfectly.
Two is just not enough, while four is just too much. Space them out about 30 centimeters apart for best results.
The pictures can’t be just from your local dollar store.
They have to be personal to you.
Grab your camera or phone, head to your favorite beach, landmark, or any other site that you enjoy, then start snapping some pictures.
You can also get a picture of your family. Have three pictures of your favorite things in the world, get them developed, frame them and hang them up in your office.
This will add a great touch to your home office and something that’s going to make you smile every time you look at it.
I have my kids all over the place, and the minute I start feeling lazy, I glance at them, and it pushes me to work harder.
Wallpaper
A great feature I like to have in my office (and this gives you amazing storage space as well) have a bright, lime green colored wallpaper in front of your workstation and add a bunch of shelves up to the ceiling.
It is one of my favorite features to use and gives my office a unique touch. If you aren’t a fan of lime green, I’m sure your favorite color will work just as well.
But, of course, don’t go out and make your entire office the same color. I find that having different wallpapers and colors keeps it unique to your office.
The 2 and 2 approach – I really like having two walls a certain, plain color (whatever you choose), then having the other two walls a patterned wallpaper. Thank me later 🙂
Natural Lighting
I absolutely hate dim and dark rooms, not just because it’s depressing for me and whoever else walks into my office, but because a dark room causes eye strain and, eventually, migraines.
I really enjoy nature and the outdoors, so it is only necessary to keep as much light coming into my office as possible.
Natural lighting has been proven to increase work productivity and improve our mood as well, which is a nice bonus.
Ambient Lighting
Ambient lighting is another must-have in your home office.
Oftentimes, natural lighting will set the mood, while ambient lighting will provide that final touch of lighting that sets the perfect office atmosphere. Any color will work.
Choose something that you will like.
Stick To A Theme
You’d better stick to a theme that will help you get the most out of your office.
For example: Do you prefer a contemporary, modernized office or a more old-school styled home office?
You don’t have to follow the exact process throughout your office, but a good rule of thumb is to ensure it fits in with your current equipment.
If it looks too out of place, then it probably is.
Your Flooring
If you’re like me, you’ll enjoy being different and having a completely unique office that works perfectly for you. I like to have tiled flooring for my workstation (where my desk and chair are), then for my sitting area, I prefer to have some carpet and a nice warm rug. You can also have a la-z-boy, a coffee table, and a bookshelf to kick your office up a notch.
Plants
A good way to get rid of that empty corner is with an all-natural item. Plants will give your office a real freshness to it, and they will also help improve your mood because plants make people feel better 🙂
Some more benefits of having pot plants:
- Lower blood pressure
- Improve your well-being
- Increase your work production
- Raise your job satisfaction
- Increase attentiveness
- Improve your reaction time
Plants are just an overall great idea to have in your home office.
This is one of the secrets to having an amazing, fully-functional office that will help you complete some valuable work on time and with the least amount of stress possible.
White And Light
This one is more of a hit-or-miss approach.
Either you like it, or you don’t.
There’s nothing in between.
There are many people using this technique for the simple fact that it works.
You can choose to go all white, which I wouldn’t recommend.
I DO, however, recommend going white and light. This means choosing light colors such as white, cream, and peach.
Use different variants throughout your office and watch the magic happen.
I often do this with my offices but add a little twist.
Have light colors, then have your desktop a specific, bright color that you like (baby blue is a good one).
This will make your desk pop out and make it look very cool—something to consider if you want to be different.
My Final Thoughts
Not all home offices are made to help you get as much work done as possible.
A lot of people don’t have the knowledge to realize that a home office is preferred to contain natural lighting or features to help inspire you, or they make the mistake of having a television in their office, which is actually going to distract you from working on your assignments or projects.
And many people also forget that you need to take breaks, and what better way to do it is by having a designated seating area inside your office room.
