Home offices are on the ever-expanding rise, that’s especially true now that there’s more opportunities to work from home. However I find that a home office will make or break your work from home career, or at least your work production.
If you don’t like your office or there’s something that really annoys you about it, it is time to change something or give your office a complete makeover. You never know, a few little touch ups to your current office might make a big difference to your overall mood and help with work flow. In this article I have put together some of my favorite home office ideas, in the hopes that you will too, make a great home office for yourself.
Coordinated metals
I find that having the same colored metals fixed throughout your office can give that little ‘oomph’ you’ve been looking for. Different metal colors can be a real annoyance, if you’re like me you will notice a big difference when it has changed.
Colorful Storage
If you have mass clutter or piled up documents, having different colored storage boxes on a shelf can actually hide some of that mess and give you a nice unique touch to your office. Add them on your floating shelves and watch your office change drastically.
Quirky Accessories
If you want, you can get large paper-made flowers to hang on your wall, making this a truly unique office to you. Maybe you want some posters of your favorite movie, anime character or TV show. Just because it’s an office that does not mean it has to be plain and simple throughout.
I find that a family portrait works perfectly, maybe a picture of your favorite travel destination works better for you. A fan is a must-have in the summer for sure! A small portable fan that sits on your desk would work as well.
One-Of-A-Kind Office
Furthermore, you can make your office even more unique to you by having different designs on your wallpaper, you could have 3 walls painted lime green, yet have a patterned wallpaper for your most exposed wall. Or you can have 2 walls baby blue and have the other 2 walls patterned with a different color.
All in all, 4 walls and a roof doesn’t just mean you have to keep it traditional like every other office in the world 😛
Patterned Drapes
If you don’t do plain and simple, you can go ahead and have your drapes patterned with a nice color to it, while also adding more interest to you home office and giving your office a burst of color.
Refined Living
If you feel like being different, go ahead and have a mirror for the top of your working desk. It is YOUR office of course and having a personalized desk that you love is going to brighten your mood even more. Because that is what a home office is all about, enhancing your mood so you can get enough work done for the day.
Your Desktop
I would recommend a long desk for more space. This will help with less clutter, more space for different projects and more places to store material. Although it is completely up to you which desk size you want. Just keep in mind that you may need to expand later on as your business grows or your papers/documents and equipment increase.
White And Bright
There’s some pros and cons for going all white throughout your office. Your office feels airy and a lot more sunny, often times more cozy. I typically like this set up, but with a few little changes to still have that unique appeal to it. There’s one con that I find – you might not like the plain and simple color throughout your entire office, so it may not be for you.
1 Different Color
I found that having a plain and simple color through your home office, yet changing your desk top to a different color will make it ‘pop out’. A white office with a baby blue desk top works brilliantly and still gives your office that unique approach.
Bright Colors
How do you feel when you walk into a bright-colored room? Happy, your mood has suddenly been enlightened. I would recommend you do the same with your home office, because you can’t work when you are depressed or stressed.
If you want to stick with the white room, add a touch of red in places such as a couple of drawers, storage containers, or binders. Add different colors if you want to, the world is your oyster.
The Great Wall
Stuck for space? No worries, instead of extending wide, go high and work with the space you actually have – instead of cramming everything on each side of you. Add lots and lots of floating shelves right up to the roof 😀 These are best used on a wall with a bright hue. Some good examples include – lime green, bright red, bright orange. These are some of many examples, yet any color will work.
Don’t Be Scared Of Dark Colors
If your wallpaper is already a darkened color, don’t be scared of it. Don’t go out and purchase bright wallpaper just yet, we can still try a few things. You will now have to rely on your furniture to give bursts of color (chair, lamp, desk)
Just work with what you already have if need be.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, your personalized office is there to help you get work completed. A dark room with no lighting and no unique touch within your home office is just going to give you eye strain and possibly headaches, while decreasing your mood thus making it more difficult to get work finished.
You’ll be popping pain killer after pain killer trying to get rid of that headache, when all along it was just your dark, depressing and boring office you’ve been sitting in all this time. Don’t let this happen to you, decorate your office with artificial lighting and preferably natural lighting, give yourself a nice view for an added mood increase and don’t forget to take frequent breaks!
