This desk was mostly made for studying (hence where it got the ‘student’ name from).
It’s sole purpose is to be basic enough for a youths bedroom or for someone who wants a desk to be small enough but still functional for writing, reading or other basic purpose.
It contains one draw, good for placing pen, pencils and other small office supplies. Below the drawer, there is also dual shelves, one of them can be adjusted to fit your storage needs.
The storage shelves are created for books, decor or anything else you like having close at hand.
This desk is actually available in different finishes so you aren’t exactly tied down to one color.
What Ultimate Benefits Does This Product Provide?
I typically like the compact and basic design, because you can fit this thing in small areas, making it a jack-of-all-trades desk.
I also like the added area on top of the desk, in addition to the main desktop surface. This will work good for a printer/scanner, decor, or anything that you usually can’t find space for in other small desks.

The price of this desk varies, usually between $50 and $80, with the cheapest place to buy being on Amazon.com.
After purchase you will instantly get a 30 day return policy, which is always good just in case you aren’t happy with your purchase or you find something wrong with it.
You can send the desk back for a repair (if you find any damages or defects) or a full refund if you don’t want the desk anymore. It will have to be within that 30 day time frame though.

Who This Desk Is For
This desk is designed for basic use, and its main purpose is for studying. But I can see that it will work for writing, reading, working on your PC/laptop and other basic uses.
It will make a good choice for a child’s bedroom and especially for a room filler. It is quite small so it makes great decor.
And will probably be good for a new home office until you can afford a better desk.
I would say the height limit is 6’3″ just to be on the safe side.
Who This Desk Is NOT For
Not a good choice for someone that wants it for long term use. This is great for college kids that need somewhere to work or have something to call “a desk”.
So a small business will probably not find this desk that helpful. It is too small for a company anyway.
Hence the name “student desk”?

- As a lot of people have mentioned, will take a little longer to set up than other desks and will need a lot of tools just to assemble it
Do I Recommend This Desk?
In all honesty, if you don’t want a huge project on your hands then this isn’t for you.
Even though the con is only minor it can be very difficult for someone who doesn’t assemble desks often, and I see that the instructions are not clear enough and very confusing.
If you like a challenge then by all means purchase this desk. Because it is sturdy when set up, compact enough to fit in small spaces and works just as designed to.
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, then this desk is highly recommended.
Otherwise if you aren’t good at following instructions and lose your patience easily (like me), then it is not for you.
Similar Desks
The Sauder Beginnings Computer Desk doesn’t have good instructions either, however at least they are much clearer, making it easier to set up, has a keyboard tray that slides out and is much better quality so it will last you longer than the Mainstays desk.
It is actually a little cheaper too, and better recommended for you if you want a desk that will last longer.
My Final Opinion
The Mainstays Student Desk actually works good for someone that needs a desk but doesn’t have enough room for a big one.
It is good quality but won’t last you for years if that’s what you want it for.
There’s only one con that I thought was worth mentioning (other than a few people complaining about getting bad ones, but you will find that with almost all Amazon products, that’s why you get a 30 day warranty).
But that con can be a huge problem if you don’t use/don’t have enough tools or use them often, or maybe you just aren’t competent enough for assembling something so difficult.
So if you don’t want a hard task on your hands, then I would rather you take a look at the Sauder Beginnings Computer Desk.
Other than that, it was a difficult product to review but I have finally come to the conclusion that it’s good and deserves a little more positive feedback than the 3.9 stars it has been given.
