Home offices are becoming increasingly popular every day, and they seem to show no sign of slowing down.
Most of these home offices are for people that are working from home (making money online, selling physical products, or maybe even selling items on behalf).
Either way, whatever you need an office for, you can never beat an organized office with amazing storage strategies.
In this article, I’ll be sharing my top favorite home office storage ideas, why they are important, and what’s the secret to a good office, so keep reading if that’s what you are here for.
My Top Storage Ideas
I absolutely love keeping my home office organized, and I don’t see why I should hold out on these ideas 😛 So I hope you enjoy them!
Filing Cabinet
Even a one person’s business will eventually need one of these.
When papers start piling up, and documents can’t be jammed in that old drawer anymore, you will need to upgrade to a filing cabinet just for an all-around organized office :).
Drawer Unit
These work just as great and are something I have in my own personal office, and I recommend you to try them.
I typically find these useful, especially when you don’t want to bend over to find that important document at the bottom of a filing cabinet.
CD Rack
Don’t you have that extra space in your desk drawer for important files?
No problem, lay an empty CD rack down in the draw.
To get the most out of this idea, use a metal rack and label each slot (e.g., to-do list, boss notes, colleague notes). This makes it a lot easier than having a pile of papers!
Empty Soap Box
These little suckers make a great storage hack.
I find them to work best with pens, pencils, erasers, and most other small office equipment.
Empty Egg Carton
There’s no need to go out and purchase a brand-new drawer divider when you probably have one lying around the house.
A dozen-sized egg carton will work wonders in your office desk drawer right next to where you are sitting.
Wastebasket
You don’t HAVE to use a wastebasket for that exact use.
Get creative and put that annoying, crumbly wrapping paper or another long tube in there, mostly items that end up getting in the way is a good idea for the wastebasket.
Stop Tangles
Stop your wires and another cordage from tangling once and for all! Grab a piece of cardboard and wrap your cords around it to prevent it from tangling altogether while staying organized.
Tackle Box
A tackle box is a brilliant idea for home office storage.
Each item can have its own section and be opened and closed without sweat – making this hack too good not to pass up.
Plastic Baskets
Even if I didn’t think of this one myself, grab a total of 4 baskets minimum, place them in your drawer, and label them if you wish for easier storage later on.
Plastic Containers
The beauty of this technique? You don’t need to fork out an arm and a leg to get a great storage area. These are perfect for not-so-important documents that you can drag into the corner of your office or notes that you don’t need now but might need later on – following the rules of having everything labeled, of course.
Why Office Storage Is Important
Office storage and simplicity is the secret to a great home office.
Without proper storage and origination, you are setting yourself up for a hard time getting your work finished quickly and efficiently.
Without all the clutter in your office, you are essentially making fewer distractions for yourself, thus helping your mindset get you in the correct mood to get work done.
How To Personalize Your Home Office
One of my favorite things about a home office is having the ability to personalize it HOWEVER you want!
Choose whatever wallpaper you want, and have your favorite action figures.
Having a picture of your family is ideal for reminding yourself that all your hard work isn’t for nothing.
Even choose your own flooring if you’d like. You might want a carpet.
Others might enjoy a polished wooden floor.
It’s all up to you because, at the end of the day, it is your office, personalized to help you get productive work completed on time.
If you can, protect your back and set your desk up, so it is facing a wall.
Research has shown that people are more comfortable when they don’t have their backs exposed to passersby or even the wind.
What Makes A Good Home Office?
I find that a good office is created due to amazing organizational strategies while still keeping the simplest ideas.
Although at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how organized your office is, or the color of your wallpaper, or the amazing sea view you have, because what it comes down to is if you are actually using all that good lighting and colorful wallpaper to help brighten your mood to get work completed fast and efficiently.
If you are still unable to get valuable work done even after these great organization tips, then you need to rethink your WHY, meaning why you are doing all of this.
If you can’t manage to hold motivation, then maybe you are doing it for the wrong reasons.
Conclusion
Your home office is going to be a great one if you can manage to actually STAY organized, able to keep it simple, and personalize your office the way you like it.
I am currently using most of these storage techniques.
I find office organization to be the most effective when you have everything in sections, hence why most of mine are section-based.
Which one will I recommend to try?
If you want to get the most bang for your buck but don’t want to have a lot of different items all over your desk, I would choose the plastic baskets and place them in your closest drawer from where you are mostly sitting.
This is to sectionize the items you use the most.
